Trouble Mounts for Bihar Bahubali Anant Singh with Supreme Court asking him to surrender in Dularchand murder case
Supreme Court wants Singh back in jail taking note of his criminal antecedents which was brushed aside lightly by the High Court as vindictive actions on account of political rivalry
Bihar Bahubali Anant Singh Surrender Row: Dularchand Yadav Murder Case: Days after being expelled from the Janata Dal (United), Bihar strongman and Mokama MLA Anant Singh received another jolt with the Supreme Court on Friday directing him to surrender and go back to jail by December 1, 2026. The Patna High Court had granted bail to Singh on March 19, 2026 in the Dularchand Yadav murder case. Yadav, a political rival, was killed on October 30, 2025 during an election rally in the run-up to the assembly elections in Bihar.
A bench presided over by Justice M. M. Sundresh decided to send him back to jail before finally deciding the petition seeking cancellation of the bail granted by the Patna High Court even after taking note of a large number of criminal cases indicating his criminal antecedents. Ironically, the high court had taken note of the criminal cases against him but considered it as a ground in his favour.
Justice Rudra Prakash Mishra of the Patna High Court had noted the argument that the criminal antecedents were on account of his political rivalry while enlarging him on bail.
Justice Sundresh, however, took note of the argument that the High Court erred in granting bail without adequately considering the nature of the offence and the criminal antecedents.
The Supreme Court, however, gave time till December 1 on account of scheduled marriage of Singh's daughter.
This came as another jolt to Singh who stands politically isolated after Janata Dal (United) expelled him and his wife for anti-party activities. Singh was openly canvassing against the party candidate in the Patna Graduates’ Constituency Legislative Council elections.
Anant’s counsel had argued in the High Court that Dularchand Yadav was a hard-core criminal and that there was no independent witness against him. Further, a large number of cases had been filed against Singh on account of political rivalry.
The High Court decided to grant bail taking note of the arguments on behalf of Singh. . “Considering the aforesaid facts and circumstances of the case, submissions made on behalf of both the parties, allegation made in the F.I.R, charge-sheet being submitted, cause of death on account of cardiorespiratory failure due to shock caused by crushed injury of lungs and heart by hard and blunt substance and not of firearm, several criminal antecedents against the petitioner on account of his political rivalry and the period of custody undergone by the petitioner, this Court is inclined to grant bail to the petitioner,” Justice Mishra recorded in the order.
Singh had argued that he had got sixteen criminal antecedents and was on bail in all. He had been made an accused in fifty-one cases in which he either got acquitted or final form has been submitted against him. The case diary submitted by the police, however, indicated that the petitioner had twenty-seven criminal antecedents.
While the High Court lightly brushed aside criminal antecedents taking note of political rivalry, the Supreme Court decided to send him back to jail taking note of criminal antecedents.
The Supreme Court order came exactly on the day Dularchand Yadav was killed a year ago. October 30, 2025.
